Grades 5-10, (10 demos per kit). Some of Emmett Chappelle's most interesting work involved the study of luminescence, which is light without heat. Luminescence has applications in many aspects of modern life, from farming to detecting life on other planets. This experiment produces cold light by a chemical reaction. Chemical energy is converted into light. Turn out the lights and watch as two solutions are poured together to produce a glow-in-the-dark light. The kit includes 1 pair of safety goggles, 2 - 0.23g vials of Luminol, 2 - 500mL 10% bleach solution, 2 - 500mL 0.1M Sodium Hydroxide solution, 2 - 100mL graduated cylinders, a 250mL Erlenmeyer flask and 1 funnel with tubing kit. This kit also includes a biography of Emmett Chappelle's work and complete instructions.
