250gr - Blue (Newton graduations begin at 0 and are marked at each .5" increment up to "2.5". Gram graduations begin at "0" and are marked at each "50" gram increment up to "250".)
500gr - Green (Newton graduations begin at "0" and are marked at each ".5" increment up to "5". Gram graduations begin at "0" and are marked at each "50" gram increment up to "500".)
1000gr - Brown (Newton graduations begin at "0" and are marked at each "1" increment up to "10". Gram graduations begin at "0" and are marked at each "100" gram increment up to 1000.)

500 grams is approximately 18 oz in English units. All scales zero by rotating the top nut. This zero features allows user to tare (zero out) weighing devices such as bags or cups within 5% capacity of the balance. These spring balances are also marked in Newtons on the reverse side which can be used to measure force for physical science experiments.
