Boston Ivy is a flowering plant in the grape family that is native to eastern Asia in Japan, Korea, and northern and eastern China.  Known for its ability to rapidly cover structures, it can easily grow and spread up to 50 feet. 

 
Plants have stem tendrils, which are shoots that grow out of the stem.  Instead of curling around things, these tendrils have touch-sensitive adhesive pads at their ends that allow them to stick to almost any surface.  The reddish-tinged new foliage turns a glossy dark green in the summer and changes to orange-red in the fall. The leaves smell pleasant and are used for their antibacterial properties.  Blue-black berries occur in late spring and are attractive to birds and bees.
 
Multiple plants grow best if placed 1 plant per every 2 linear feet.  Grow in any ordinary garden soil. Trim back as needed.  Seeds will germinate in about 1 month and the plants will tolerate just about any condition.  Growing instructions included on back of seed package.
