Botanical Name: Dracaena Dracois a magnificent, fascinating plant of ancient beauty with crowns of long, tender, bluish leaves. It has a short, stunt stem, coral roots, and is not actually a tree, but rather a giant lily. Commonly used as a house plant, the Sword shaped leaves will have a red edge if kept in good light and will toughen with age. Only grows to 4 feet indoors, but if planted in the ground it will grow to a massive and broad tree that is 25 feet tall.
Leaf scars resemble the skin of a dinosaur. When the bark or leaves are cut, it secretes a reddish resin known as Dragon's Blood. The dark red sap was regarded for centuries in European legends as the blood of dragons," and was often used for its supposed magical and medicinal qualities. This resin is still used today to produce incense and varnishes to stain and polish wood.
