Cacti are very easy to grow from seed.  They require bright light and/or direct sunlight to thrive.  Although they cannot handle outside direct sunlight until they are a few years old.  They do not need watering very often, so if remembering to water your plants has been a problem for you in the past... these are the perfect plants for you!
 
 Cacti are often used as ornamental plants, but some are also crop plants.  They are used as sources of food, drink, medicine, sealants, caulking, building materials and toys.  Their stems have expanded into green succulent structures containing the chlorophyll necessary for life and growth, while the leaves have become the spines for which cacti are so well known.
 
Members of the cactus plant family exhibit a variety of strange shapes, spines, and showy flowers. Even though today they are found around the world, all species of cacti except four tropical varieties are native to the Americas.  Cacti, like every group of living organisms, vary greatly.  Some cacti look like pincushions; others resemble starfish or even blades of grass.  There are about 2,000 different species of cactuses.  Even within a certain specie, cactus exhibit a certain amount of variation between individual plants.  In other words, every cactus of a given species does not look exactly alike.  For example, spines may vary in length and color.  They are very hardy plants, however and always make a beautiful addition to any garden, patio or room decor.
