Be Amazing! Cartesian Diver
Underwater Science HOOK Activity Kit

An incredible Cartesian diver game that you build and test yourself. Based on a classic science experiment that is hundreds of years old, this amazing educational toy kit is guaranteed to get anyone hooked on science. Using the materials in this kit and an empty soda bottle (NOT Included), you create the diver and sinker. The game is based on the changing relative densities of air, water, and solids when the water pressure inside a plastic soda bottle changes. The object of the game is to make the Hook diver sink by squeezing a soda bottle and hooking the sinker that is on the bottom. It's a game of science principles and manual skill that is hours of fun. Easy-to-use instructions make this a great activity for learning and creating. Science Principles explored in this kit are physics and fluid dynamics. Ages 8 & up.

This is a great kit for kids who like to build things themselves. The easy to follow instructions (pictures included) will help your young scientist develop science smarts and confidence alike. The hands-on nature of instrument calibration is typical work that scientists do every day. Once set up, the diver game is good for hours of fun.

The scientist who originally thought of this experiment was Rene Descartes. Descartes lived in France in the 1600s and made many contributions in math, science and philosophy. Your kit improves on Descartes design because it isn't made of delicate glass vials that can easily break. After you make your sinker and diver from the kit, you'll finely tune them to have just the right amount of water and air before you play the game. Amazing!

Someone really should be paying you for your awesome science skills. Afterward, have fun with the science toy you built yourself. It works because of the small amount of air in the diver. Air compresses much more easily than water (a liquid) or solid things, so when you squeeze the bottle, the air in the diver shrinks down into a smaller space (you'll be able to see the water level in the diver rise.) This makes the diver seem heavier (it is more dense) and it shoots to the bottom of the bottle. Your instructions have even more information.
