The nickname "Dalmatian" was given to this unusual looking mineral because of its resemblance to a Dalmatian's dog's spots. Its true name, however, is orbicular rhyolite. Orbicular rhyolite is an igneous rock that was formed by lava flows on the Earth's surface. The spots, or orbs, in this mineral probably occurred when molten lava reacted with fragments of rock known as xenoliths. Rhyolites are extremely fine-grained. This makes their mineral composition hard to identify except by sophisticated chemical techniques. The main constituents of rhyolite are quartz and feldspar.

Picture is representative of the specimen you will receive. Each rock is unique and will vary in shape, size and appearance. No two rocks will be exactly alike.
