Product Details

This expanded collection allows a study in detail of the response of these minerals to the range of ultraviolet rays. There are 15 specimens approximately 1.5 x 1.5 inches in size. You will need a short wave(254nm) and a long wave(365nm) UV Lamp (ultraviolet uv light) to view the fluorescence of the rocks in this kit.  The rocks range from short wave to long wave UV sensitive.

Be Advised: A regular black light will not work with these rocks. A short wave and long wave UV lamp must be used to make the rocks fluoresce.

This Kit Contains One of Each of the Following:
    • Scapolite var
    • Wernerite (yellow-green/yellow)
    • Gypsum (white-orange)
    • Calcite (white-yellow)
    • Travertine (yellow-white)
    • Willemite (red florescence indicates calcite/green)
    • Barite (yellow)
    • Orendite(white-yellow)
    • Fluorite (blue)
    • Bituminous Coal (blue-white-yellow/blue-white)
    • Hackmanite(green-orange)
    • Coquina(white)
    • Turritella Agate (white-yellow)
    • Aragonite(white)
    • Chalcedony (green/light green)

More About UV Light:

Wavelengths are measured in nanometers (nm) and human eyes see wavelengths from 390 to 750nm.  Ultraviolet light has a wavelength from 10 to 390nm.  Short wave and long wave lights filter out different wavelengths beyond normal visible light.  Short wave lights filter electromagnetic radiation at 254nm and long wave lights filter at 365nm.
