In this experiment, butyric acid will be synthesized by the oxidation of n-butyl alcohol (primary butyl alcohol) by potassium dichromate in the presence of a catalyst (sulfuric acid). The resultant carboxylic acid will be purified by distillation. Contains enough materials for 15 groups, also includes 1 microchemistry organic combostill setup. Additional combostill setups are available for purchase.
